Istanbul Turkey, day 1

So, Sarah and I arrived at 10am. 1 sleeping pill and zero hours of sleep later, I am in Turkey. What a place. We take the subway downtown, and then get lost for over an hour until we find our Hotel Tayhan. My sister Liz and her buddy Kate happen to be checking in when we are, so we all plan our day. Shower and 2 coffees later, we're eating Kababs and Turkish Meatballs. Yum. Then, the Topkapi Palace and Harem. It's where all the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire lived for about 600 years. We also toured the harem. So the Sultan's mom ran the Harem, and 100's of concubines lived there, hoping that the Sultan's mom would pick them out for a fling with the sultan. If they were lucky enough to get pregnant, they's eke a ton of money out of the Sultan and get themselves out of poverty. Amazing.

We then hit the 4 Seasons rooftop bar. incredible view of the Bosphorous, the Sea, the 3 Peninsula's of Istanbul. A beautiful city. 18MM people. Way bigger than I thought. After a nap, we went the main drag in the new city - Istiklal Kad (we're staying in the old city - Sultamahet), and went to 360 bar, where I drank incredibly expensive Turksih beer and had amazing views of the city. Then, we went to some amazing dive restaurant that had a 50 Lira prefix dinner with about a billion courses. Plus, live Turksih music, with a drunk and awkard groupie who kept singing and dancing. An incredible night. Now i'm in my double bed, about to sleep, and will post pics tomorrow.

Peace in the Middle East...
